The Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of people with anaphylaxis and food allergies. We achieve this by:

What is anaphylaxis?

Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening allergic reaction caused by eating food or coming into contact with another product which provokes allergy. The most common food allergens are peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, milk, wheat, fish and shell fish.

Is the problem of anaphylaxis getting worse?

The Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation sponsored the Healthnuts study published in 2011. It is the world’s largest demographic study into food allergies conducted by the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, Melbourne. Associate Professor Katie Allen found that Melbourne has the highest reported rates of proven food allergy in the world with as many as 10% of infants demonstrating allergies of either egg, peanut or sesame at the age of one. This study proves that the problem of food allergies is growing to reach close to epidemic proportions. This is what’s driving the Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation to foster greater research in this area.
